Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tintos interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the worlds third largest diamond producer by value. Diavik has won awards for its sensitive management of environmental and community issues.

Reporting to the Director, Community Affairs, the Superintendent, Communications, Marketing and Public Relations, will work at the Yellowknife Corporate Office on a five (5) days on / two (2) days off rotational basis. The incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating a public relations program to create and maintain a positive public image for DDMI; monitor activities that could affect the companys operating environment; recommend appropriate action to minimize potentially negative impacts and maximizing potentially positive outcomes of such activities on DDMI.

The Superintendent, Communications, Marketing and Public Relations will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

- Directing the activities of the Communications, Marketing and Public Relations program;
- Developing, implementing and executing DDMIs annual (Jan. 15th) communication, marketing and public relations strategy and plans;
- Reviewing the overall effectiveness of the strategy and related plans on an annual basis;
- Seeking marketing opportunities to enhance DDMIs image;
- Acting as DDMIs key contact and official spokesperson with external audiences;
- Ensuring communications materials are of high quality and delivered on time:
* Dialogue (internal newspaper)
* Socio-Economic Monitoring Agreement Reports (SEMA)
* Fact Book
* DDMI Posters
* Annual Sustainable Development Report
- Developing key messages that are accurate, respectful, and well presented;
- Monitoring the media and municipal, territorial, and federal government communication sites;
- Apprising staff of relevant information and making recommendations for appropriate courses of action;
- Ensuring staff are prepared to address external issues that may impact the companys operation;
- Responding to information requests in a timely, professional, and conservative manner;
- Facilitating DDMI participation in public events:
* Maintain Community Event Matrix
* Develop Community Events Wall Calendar
* Overseeing a site tour program;

- Providing communications support to other departments in a timely manner;
- Overseeing the collection, production, and maintenance of a variety of graphics, video, and photographs;
- Ensuring that the audio-visual library is maintained;
- Providing easy access to stored audio-visual materials;
- Overseeing the production and maintenance of presentations and websites;
- Writing speeches for the President and other staff members as required;
- Managing and protecting trademarks;
- Taking appropriate and timely action to correct misinformation and misperceptions;
- Maintaining and implementing the crisis communications plan;
- Directing and participating in a media relations plan that cultivates and maintains favorable relationships with media representatives;
- Ensuring budgets are adhered to;
- Providing accurate and timely monthly reports.


Requirements:

Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will hold Bachelors degree in Communications or equivalent, along with 7 years of experience. Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
